Over 65's Help Boost UK Productivity

Older British people have been judged among the most economically productive in Europe by a new study which found the over 65s are making full use of zero-hours contracts and the explosion of part-time work to stay employed. The UK comes fourth in a new Active Aging Index of EU countries, largely as a result of over a million over 65s continuing in paid work. The UK was one of the first countries in the EU to scrap compulsory retirement age and the more flexible labour market means employers are happy to take on older workers because there are not too many overheads. However there are other factors which encourage work in this age group, not least the relatively low rate of the state pension.Source Rosemary Bennett, The Times.
